Summary
The cashier provides a positive first impression inclusive of a warm, inviting greeting. Cashiers are brand ambassadors and as such must have comprehensive menu knowledge along with exceptional communication skills. The primary function of the cashier position is to ensure that all food, beverages, and merchandise are rung into the point of sales system properly. Cashiers provide fast, efficient service during register transactions while assisting guests in any way to guarantee guest satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of the position.
- Must be able to perform multiple talks while maintaining required standards of operation in daily restaurant activities.
- Must be able to perform duties to ensure guest satisfaction. Work in a busy environment, under pressure while maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Maintain a cheerful, courteous disposition and a neat, clean professional image.
- Read, sign, and execute all aspects of the la Madeleine Cash Handling Policy
- Ensure all items are rung up correctly. Collect payments of goods, make change, and hand out receipts.
- Be responsible for all monies in the cash drawer. Utilize appropriate counterfeit detection methods as necessary.
- Handle cash, credit cards, and gift card transactions in a professional and efficient manner.
- Have complete knowledge of the menu
- Suggest to each guest the purchase of additional food, beverages, and/or merchandise items.
- Solve problems and by correcting guest food issues.
- Keep the register area clean, organized, and well-stocked.
- Perform opening and closing shift duties
- Maintain a favorable working relationship with all other company associates to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.
- Assist in various work areas as necessary, including to-go, salad, side stations, and dining room.
- Assist in answering business telephone, respond to inquiries, and provide information to guests.
- Complete light food prep tasks.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualification Standards
- Must be able to ring guests up and provide change in a fast efficient manner.
- Be able to clearly understand, communicate, and interact with our guests.
- Be able to articulate clear greetings, requests for assistance, and farewell to guests.
- Be able to stand, move, and work during entire shift with frequent bending and lifting.
- Be able to acknowledge hazards such as broken glass, burns, slipping, and tripping.
- Be able to read menu items and understand ticket orders.
- Be able to hear managers, associates, and guests in the midst of loud background noises.
- Be able to pass cashier tests as required.
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
